The Faculty offers facilities and expertise for investigation of animal welfare and science and provides excellent postgraduate training from whole animal studies to the molecular level. In the last Research Assessment Exercise, the Faculty scored the maximum 5 points for research excellence. The Faculty of Veterinary Science at Liverpool benefits enormously from its close collaborative links with the Faculties of Medicine and Science, and with the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine. These links fully exploit the comparative nature of veterinary science and extend significantly the range of taught postgraduate study and research which can be undertaken in veterinary science at Liverpool. If you are thinking of research as a career option, Liverpool can offer the right environment to help you develop your skills. With over 85 full-time academic posts, the Faculty incorporates three departments: the Department of Veterinary Preclinical Sciences, the Department of Veterinary Pathology, including Pathology, Infectious Diseases and Public Health; and the Department of Veterinary Clinical Science, composed of four divisions, namely Animal Husbandry, Equine Studies, Livestock Health and Welfare, and Small Animal Studies. Faculty staff are also located in the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine (Parasitology). There are close working associations with the Schools of Biological Sciences, Cancer Studies (Division of Surgery and Oncology), Clinical Sciences (Division of Medicine) and Infection and Host Defence (Division of Medical Microbiology) and the Department of Computer Science. The Faculty's teaching was evaluated by the Quality Assurance Agency and was awarded the maximum of 24 points out of 24.

Entry Requirements
It is usual for the University to insist on an initial registration for the degree of MPhil for the first year of your study and then to upgrade your studies to PhD level if you are progressing satisfactorily. The programme of research takes at least two years full-time (usually three years) or at least four years part-time, although special permission may be given to undertake one year outside the University.
