Course info
In recent years we have gained a much greater understanding of the issues involved in Restoration Ecology and applied ecologists have developed a range of techniques for dealing with damaged sites and for restoring biodiversity and ecological function to degraded systems. In the UK and mainland Europe there has been little attempt to combine these skills so that widely informed, versatile restoration ecologists are produced, capable of giving advice and supervising projects involving a range of different habitats in one problem area. This programme has been designed to give advanced training in the theoretical basis, practical techniques and policy framework necessary to enable ecological restoration of semi-natural and natural habitats which have become degraded and reduced in biodiversity as a result of agricultural, industrial or other development operations. The aims embrace terrestrial and freshwater environments in both temperate and tropical contexts and include amelioration of artificial and man-made habitats such as mineral spoil and waste tips.
How much will it cost?
Course fees are subject to change and you are advised to check the current details with the course provider before enrolling on this course.
Assessment method
Assessed by case study reports, presentations & placement report.
Entry Requirements
The programme has a strong pragmatic and vocational bias and may be attractive to existing professionals in countryside management and planning on a secondment basis. It is intended that the programme will attract international students as well as those from Europe. Students will be expected to hold at least a second class Honours degree in a biological subject, Environmental Sciences or Geography (or equivalent). For international students admission will be dependent on equivalent previous degree training and demonstration of command of the English language. Any student with an alternative but relevant background might be acceptable when considered on an individual basis.
