The School's MA in Popular Music Studies was the first taught postgraduate programme in the country wholly devoted to this subject and continues to attract students from a variety of disciplinary backgrounds and nationalities. It is a unique postgraduate programme offering students the opportunity to develop their critical understanding of popular music at an advanced level through a combination of group work and independent research. The approach is interdisciplinary, taking account of the economic, technological and social aspects of popular music, but has a central focus on the music itself. All postgraduates have full access to the Institute's extensive programme of seminars as well as to the expertise of the Institute's staff and of scholars from outside attracted to the Institute as Visiting Fellows.

Assessment method
Assessment is by submitting portfolio of essays & a dissertation.

Entry Requirements
For taught programmes applicants with a completed first degree in Music (including joint honours degrees) are encouraged to apply. The expected classification of degree is a 2:i or a high 2:i in at least those subjects of a degree that will be relevant to the chosen pathway.
