Course info
The main focus of the group is to study the molecular mechanisms underlying ionotropic glutamate receptor activation. These receptors have been implicated in the pathology of a wide range of neuronal disorders and diseases, ranging from epilepsy to schizophrenia and neuronal cell death following stroke. We are currently using a wide range of techniques, from recombinant expression to radioligand binding and patch-clamp electrophysiology to identify residues and domains involved in receptor gating and allosteric domain interactions. This work will improve our understanding of how drugs interact with these receptors, and aid the development of new drugs with more selective actions. The work of the group is primarily supported by the Medical Research Council, with other funding from the University and the Royal Society.
