Clinical Engineering encompasses a number of research and educational activities that embrace many different aspects of technology in health care. The greatest emphasis has been on the research programmes related to biomaterials and Clinical Engineering has a worldwide reputation in this area. In this profile of activities, attention has focused on projects in three major areas: biocompatibility, cardiovascular haemodynamics and tissue engineering.
