Course info
PhD students normally register initially for an MPhil with transfer to PhD, and backdating to the start of registration, at the end of the first year (second year if part-time) if progress has been satisfactory. Students applying for an MPhil or PhD will be expected to have a postgraduate degree (normally an MA/MSc) or equivalent qualifications, in a relevant subject. The application should include an outline of the proposed research topic and prospective students are encouraged to contact a possible supervisor to discuss their ideas before applying. There are currently more than 50 MPhil/PhD students in total in the School.

Entry Requirements
Students who wish to study for a postgraduate research degree will usually have graduated in a relevant subject and/or a Masters degree in that subject. Before applying, we recommend that applicants contact their proposed supervisor to discuss their application, research topic and funding options.
