Course info
The Department of Geography has academic staff with expertise in geographies of population, development and globalisation, and in advanced environmental analytical techniques and the study of environmental change. The taught modules and research projects that form part of each Masters programme benefit from the high quality research and expertise of our staff. The Department has strengths in both Human and Physical Geography. The Department of Geography benefits from substantial facilities to support both taught and research programmes. The Department is equipped with a Geographic Information Centre, Map Collection and Cartographic Suite. Postgraduate students are also provided with personal office space, which includes access to computing facilities and internet connections. Departmental laboratories include an Environmental Magnetism Laboratory, Particle Size Analysis and Optical Dating laboratories, and Geochemistry and Palaeoecology suites. Further resources and equipment are made available through a departmental partnership with the Environmental Radioactivity Research Centre.

Entry Requirements
A typical minimum entry requirement is an 2:ii Bachelors degree (with Honours) in a relevant field of study. All graduates of non-UK universities are required to provide evidence of satisfactory communications skills in English language. A typical requirement is an IELTS score of 6.5; TOEFL paper-based score of 570; TOEFL computer based score of 230; TOEFL internet-based score of 88-89, or GCSE grade C. All research degree candidates are initially registered for the MPhil degree. Students wishing to continue for PhD study transfer their registration to PhD after they have completed at least one year as MPhil students and have shown satisfactory progress.
