Course info
The course aims to develop a range of appropriate skills of a vocational nature through lectures, seminars and project work that encourage imaginative solutions to spatial problems. Project work is studio based encouraging the exploration of spatial aspects through aids (such as real & virtual models) to visualise and test spatial environments against cultural, functional & spiritual criteria. The emphasis of the 1st year is on the abstraction of ideas & concept to formulate space and sequences of space to relate to and reflect lifestyle. The 2nd year is based around the potential of film & computer generated 'space' and how society interfaces with them. The theory & practice of film, theatre and cyberspace are studied as artificial, condensed representations of the real in order to comprehend & project these influences into contemporary spatial designs. The 3rd year centres around theories & practice associated with the assessment of existing contextual spatial situations and the methods of intervening in these contexts to amend the patterns of the past for contemporary life.
